Hull businesses to benefit from wireless broadband

Hull, 26th October 2006 - Businesses and public sector organisations in and around Hull are for the first time going to be offered an alternative to the broadband services offered by Kingston Communications with the launch of a wireless broadband service from Azzurri Communications.

The new service, Azzurri Broadband, will bring competitively priced wireless Internet access to the city of Hull, allowing local businesses to take full advantage of technologies including VoIP. Businesses will also be able to better support remote working and improve their own customer service through improved web hosting and business continuity.

"It's fantastic that Hull businesses will now be able to exploit this state of the art wireless technology that is already available in London and Oxford," said Steve Cowley, divisional director, Azzurri Communications. "We are committed to the continuing regeneration of Hull and this is a natural extension to our investment programme. "

Azzurri announced a one million pound investment programme in August 2005 including research and development for its education division and a recruitment campaign for technical consultants.

Cowley continues: "We responded to the demand from our existing customers and deployed our own wireless local loop in Hull to provide an alternative to the incumbent infrastructure. Businesses, schools and government organisations who are currently connected to Kingston Communications' network will now be able to benefit from our high availability bandwidth service and, in many cases, more competitive pricing."

Customer relationships will be managed from Azzurri Communications' local engineering office in the city, and will include dedicated technical and client account management.

Tamar Science Park invests in the future with Redstone Converged Solutions

As Science Park continues to increase in size, Redstone Converged Solutions provides scalable IT infrastructure

17th October 2006 -Tenants of Plymouth-based Tamar Science Park (TSP), one of the fastest growing science parks in the UK, are now reaping the benefits of varying types of Internet connectivity and secure, reliable ICT thanks to a flexible data network infrastructure designed and delivered jointly by Redstone Converged Solutions and Tamar Science Park.

Having previously outsourced its Internet requirements to a third party, TSP decided to manage the provision of all network services internally, creating additional key value-added services for its tenant companies. With tenants ranging from sole traders to organisations with up to 50 employees, each tenant's ICT requirements differ considerably. Therefore, Redstone Converged Solutions and TSP delivered an integrated network infrastructure to the whole site with a focus on enabling technology to provide maximum flexibility when provisioning services.

Jonathan Harris, ICT operations manager, TSP said: "Thanks to the expertise of Redstone Converged Solutions, we now have a scalable, flexible infrastructure that will grow as TSP's number of tenants increases. By bringing the provision of these services in-house, we are able to closely manage the network, promote it as a key service to potential, new and existing tenants and to integrate it with IP-ready managed telephony services."

"We pride ourselves on delivering innovative solutions which meet our customers' exacting requirements," said Paul Kennedy, managing director, Redstone Converged Solutions. He continued: "The new network infrastructure solution will allow Tamar Science Park to provide its tenants with the network bandwidth, security and access that meets its needs, irrespective of the size of the organisation."

The network infrastructure now paves the way for the next phase of evolution of TSP. £24 million is due to be invested in its next phase of expansion and this will effectively double the size of the park, offering new facilities such as a design enterprise centre, pre-incubation space, a bistro and grow-on units for tenants emerging from their incubation period.

The project saw the roll-out of a resilient layer 3 switching infrastructure, wireless hotspots for public broadband access, bandwidth management systems, resilient firewalling and an overall network management system for reporting and alerting.

Eventually, TSP plans to converge its telephony system with its new network infrastructure providing yet more flexibility and choice for tenants.

ApplianSys helps Telehouse Europe future-proof its DNS system

3rd October 2006 - Coventry-based ApplianSys, manufacturers and providers of appliance-based technology has won the contract to upgrade Telehouse Europe's Domain Name Server (DNS) management facility. ApplianSys has sold its DNSBOX300 and DNSBOX100 to the secure data centre and colocation facilities provider to help improve management and maintenance of its DNS information.

Telehouse Europe provides customised IT housing and management services from its own secure facilities, primarily for telecommunication and Internet-related companies. Given the business critical nature of the service provided by the company, it cannot afford any downtime to its IP network so a revamp of its existing legacy DNS system was essential.

"As part of an operational tidy up we realised that we needed to overhaul our DNS system. As a crucial component of our network, we needed the assurance that our DNS system works in sync with our server environment and also that downtime would be at a minimum. ApplianSys' DNSBox is the ideal solution for our needs as it is a 'plug and play' device and guarantees maximum security and stability," commented Paul Kanabahita, Network Manager, Telehouse Europe.

"The simplicity of DNSBox's user interface makes management of Telehouse Europe's DNS system less time consuming and complicated. The appliance's stability and reliability will also help eliminate the risk of DNS failure and network downtime," said Mike Clark, CEO, ApplianSys.

DNSBOX300 is a hardened device with a secure purpose-built Linux, appliance architecture and an inbuilt firewall. It comes pre-installed with an intuitive administration interface that means there's no need to install OS and DNS server software or to patch the software for security vulnerabilities. It works seamlessly and securely with the DNSBOX100 - a DNS slave/secondary appliance. The DNSBOX100 is a BIND-based slave, and offers all the benefits of the appliance format, including security, diskless operation and the ApplianSys admin interface. It can operate with any other DNS primary.
