Maxwell Technologies' Boostcap MC 2600 Ultracapacitor Wins Prestigious 'Electron D'or' Award

- French award in power conversion category -

ROSSENS, Switzerland - Maxwell Technologies, Inc. (Nasdaq: MXWL) announced today that it has won a prestigious 'Electron d'Or' award. Maxwell's MC2600 ultracapacitors were selected as the most innovative product of the previous twelve months in the category of power conversion.

The recipients of the Electron d'Or awards are chosen by a jury of industry experts, in conjunction with the editors of 'Electronique', the leading French electronics monthly magazine. This year is the ninth annual awards, and there are prizes in twelve categories.

"We are delighted to be recognised for the industry-leading performance of our ultracapacitors," said Alan Riedo, corporate senior vice president at Maxwell Technologies. "They exploit our proprietary improvements in ultracapacitor electrode composition, a mechanical design that closely matches the electrode with the cell package and the ability to minimise
impurities introduced into the cell during manufacturing."

The MC2600 is a family of ultracapacitor cells and multicell modules aimed at transportation, automotive, telecoms and industrial applications, offering excellent performance and a lifetime of over 1 million cycles. It is available in two distinct types of ultracapacitors, the affordable Energy Line, and the high performance Power Line that provides the lowest possible internal resistance. This means an optimal solution can be chosen for virtually any application.

The 2600F cell is engineered for operation at 2.7 V rather than the typical 2.5 V. The BMOD2600-16 module combines six of the MC2600 cells to provide 16-V operation. The MC2600 achieves a power density of 10.4 kW/kg and an energy density of 5.6 Wh/kg.

BOOSTCAP ultracapacitors deliver up to 10 times the power and longevity of batteries, require no maintenance and operate reliably in extreme temperatures. In transportation applications, they efficiently recapture energy from braking for reuse in hybrid drive trains, reducing fuel consumption and emissions. They also provide compact, lightweight,
"life-of-the vehicle" solutions to stabilise automotive power networks and power new, all-electric subsystems, such as drive-by-wire steering. In mission critical industrial applications, where backup power is critical for continued operation or a soft shutdown in the event of power interruptions, they provide reliable, cost-effective, maintenance-free energy storage. In wind turbine blade pitch and braking systems and other industrial applications, they provide a simple, solid state, highly reliable, solution to buffer short-term mismatches between the power available and the power required.

Maxwell is a leading developer and manufacturer of innovative,cost-effective energy storage and power delivery solutions. Our BOOSTCAP® ultracapacitor cells and multi-cell modules and POWERCACHE backup power systems provide safe and reliable power solutions for applications in consumer and industrial electronics, transportation and telecommunications.

Our CONDIS high-voltage grading and coupling capacitors help to ensure the safety and reliability of electric utility infrastructure and other applications involving transport, distribution and measurement of high-voltage electrical energy. Our radiation-mitigated microelectronic products include power modules, memory modules and single board computers that incorporate powerful commercial silicon for superior performance and high reliability in aerospace applications.

Maxwell Technologies' 'Quick-Turn' Ultracapacitor Modules Speed Prototyping and Integration for High-Volume Transportation and Industrial Applications

- New Programme Offers 14-Day Turnaround for Custom Configurations to Support Systems Requiring up to 540 Volts -

ROSSENS, Switzerland - Maxwell Technologies, Inc. (Nasdaq: MXWL) today unveiled a new "Quick-Turn" BOOSTCAP ultracapacitor module programme that offers shipment within 14 days of receipt a customer purchase order for custom-configured multi-cell energy storage and power delivery solutions for systems requiring up to 540 volts.

Dr Richard Balanson, Maxwell's president and chief executive officer, said that the Quick-Turn program leverages standard modular building blocks and proprietary balancing, monitoring and thermal transfer technologies to establish a new industry standard for flexibility and responsiveness to customer requirements.

"Global demand for ultracapacitor-based solutions is real and growing, and we continue to move aggressively to capitalise on Maxwell's technology leadership to become the supplier of choice for transportation and industrial manufacturers," Balanson said. "By eliminating the complexity and long lead times that system designers frequently encounter when they want to evaluate and prototype ultracapacitors solutions, we are facilitating and accelerating development of new applications that have the potential to drive high volumes in the years ahead."

Michael Everett, Maxwell's vice president and chief technology officer, said that custom Quick Turn modules based on the BCAP 2600 2,600-farad Energy and Power cells are immediately available, and that additional options based on the entire MC family of products, ranging from 650 to 3,000 farads will be phased in, beginning in the third quarter. Quick-Turn module pricing will be quoted on a fixed fee basis for quantities of one to five units.

Maxwell also offers a complete line of standard, 15- to 48-volt multi-cell packs and modules based on the company's Power- and Energy-type ultracapacitor cells. Both standard and Quick Turn modules are encased in rugged, splash-proof aluminium chassis and include internal cell balancing that give designers "plug and play" solutions, plus module-to-module
balancing that makes them versatile building blocks for systems with higher voltage requirements.

All BOOSTCAP cells with a capacitance of 650 farads or greater operate at 2.7 volts, enabling them to store more energy and deliver more power per unit volume than any other commercially available ultracapacitor products.

"All of these products meet or exceed demanding transportation and industrial application requirements for both watt-hours of energy storage and watts of power delivery per kilogram and will perform reliably for more than one million discharge-recharge cycles," Everett said. "The proprietary architecture and material science on which BOOSTCAP products are based also
significantly reduce manufacturing cost, positioning Maxwell to compete favourably with batteries and other energy storage technologies."

They also provide compact, lightweight, "life-of-the vehicle" solutions to stabilize automotive power networks and power new, all-electric subsystems, such as drive-by-wire steering. In mission critical industrial applications, where backup power is critical for continued operation or a soft shutdown in the event of power interruptions, they provide reliable, cost-effective, maintenance-free energy storage. In
wind turbine blade pitch and braking systems and other industrial applications, they provide a simple, solid state, highly reliable, solution to buffer short-term mismatches between the power available and the power required.

VIRGIN ATLANTIC GIVES CUSTOMERS BUSINESS EDGE

Red-M provides state-of-the-art wireless coverage in ultimate airport lounge

Virgin Atlantic has commissioned Red-M Group to design the wireless system for its new Clubhouse at London Heathrow's Terminal 3. The Virgin Atlantic Clubhouse has been designed as the world's ultimate airline lounge in terms of comfort and facilities for its passengers. Red-M was asked to provide a system that not only caters for Virgin Atlantic's own business needs on site but also enabled a public Internet service provider to supply wireless access to its Upper Class passengers.

"The system needs to conform to the common infrastructure deployment rules developed by BAA, operator of Heathrow", said Andrew Barker, Chief Marketing Officer, Red-M Group. "Suppliers of wireless infrastructure on BAA properties must adhere to its Electronic Communications Approvals Process which prevents the wireless installations of its tenants interfering with both operational and other approved tenants systems."

"Our aim is to provide the best comfort and facilities for our passengers", said Hilary Clark, Senior Design Manager for Virgin Atlantic "We chose Red-M because they are experts in the field of wireless technology. We were confident they could help us design and provide the best service for passengers as well as meet the strict standards of Heathrow."

"Because of ubiquity of radio waves, even those in different frequency bands could interfere with each other. It's a bit like noise and at a busy site like an airport terminal, wireless interference can play havoc with electronic check-in desks and shop tills", explained Andrew Barker. "BAA's approval process ensures that its tenants can trade without unnecessary interruption. Our job is to contain the wireless activity inside the Clubhouse yet provide enough wireless coverage over the entire 2250 square meters so that Virgin Atlantic passengers have a constant stream of wireless access."

Red-M was further challenged by the unusual ceiling in the Clubhouse. It is a complex architectural feature constructed of fibre glass reinforced gypsum. In most buildings wireless access points are installed unobtrusively on the ceiling but the architect's stipulation for this ceiling was that no access points or antennas should interfere with its design. No access points can be visible anywhere within the Clubhouse.

Red-M designed an innovative grid of more than 1000m of 'leaky feeder' to create an evenly distributed signal that is connected to access points located in accessible rooms at either end of the lounge. Leakage of the signal outside the boundaries of the Virgin Atlantic Clubhouse has been kept within BAA's requirements by carefully adjusting the power levels to each section of 'leaky feeder' to suit the local environment.

Bradford computer specialist pioneers 'texting' to innovate customer service

6th June 2006 - A forward-looking computer specialist from Bradford is making pioneering use of 'texting' as part of Click and Collect, a new service that revolutionises customer service by enabling people to order products through the Web and then collect them from the company's Tong showroom within the hour.

By using CCL Computers' Click and Collect ordering service, people can say exactly when they want to pick up their products. Not only can customers collect their order within an hour, but they also receive a 'text' the instant the order is ready at the collection desk.

The move makes online shopping straightforward and convenient, and recognises that some people who use the Web to order products might want to collect the goods themselves so that they can have them in their hands faster than would otherwise be possible using delivery services.

"We have all been frustrated by driving to retailers to buy products only to find that they are not in stock, or that the order isn't ready for collection," said CCL Computers' managing director, Adrian Wood. "Nearly everyone carries a mobile phone, and we will send a text message to reassure our customers that their orders are ready.

"Furthermore, since we keep thousands of products in stock, our customers are usually able to pick up their goods inside one hour of placing their order with us. Today's consumers want their goods quickly and cheaply. We believe that we fulfil this common need better than anyone else in the marketplace."

CCL Computers, which also offers next day guaranteed delivery for most products, provides computers, peripherals and a variety of electronics to businesses, private consumers and the education sector at competitive prices and with strong after sales support, including free technical help.

This year the company celebrates its tenth anniversary. Since its inception, CCL Computers has sustained year-on-year growth and now employs more than 80 people at its Tong showroom. The company's Web site,<http://www.cclonline.com> receives more than 200,000 visits a month.

ACCESS THE WORLD, NOT JUST YOUR EMAIL

5 June, 2006 - Mobile working is now a common feature in most companies and remote access to corporate information from anywhere in the world, at anytime, is fast becoming a necessity, but there is more to remote access than simply checking emails - according to IT consultants, Frontier Technology.

"The technologies are developing fast - most of the security concerns have been overcome in recent years and are no longer an issue. The latest devices on the market mean anything is possible," says Frontier Managing Director, Edwin Wong. "But businesses are not being creative with access technology and too often mobile workers merely have access to email and nothing more. We want organisations to start embracing remote access and use their imagination - with secure access to the entire corporate network, the possibilities are endless."

"Now that the security issues surrounding remote access to corporate information are no longer an issue, employees can share files wherever they are in the world securely, making the age of branch offices a thing of the past - every office can now connect to the same network in many ways, working as one. And remote meetings are no longer about conference calls over slow connections with each member working off a different document. Individuals can now share screens and control PowerPoint slides remotely, making costly business travel unnecessary."

In various industries, imaginative use of remote access really can be revolutionary. In healthcare, nurses and health practitioners visiting patients at home can now report directly to a central database via secure remote access. Even patients are now being discharged early, allowing them to check their own vital signs and feeding them back to a central database checked daily by their healthcare provider.

"There are no limitations to how remote access can be used today," concludes Edwin, "the only thing holding organisations back is imagination."

For advice and further information about how to introduce remote access successfully into your organisation, Frontier Technology provides a consultancy service that will enable you to identify the best means to make the most of remote access. Maxwell Technologies Introduces Compact, Light Weight 'C-Cell' BOOSTCAP Ultracapacitor Products for Industrial and Transportation Applications

New Power- and Energy-Type Cells and Multi-cell Packs Provide 'Life-of-the-System' Alternatives to Batteries

ROSSENS, Switzerland - Maxwell Technologies, Inc. (Nasdaq: MXWL) announced today that it has introduced BOOSTCAPR Energy - and Power-type "C-Cell" ultracapacitor cells and multi-cell packs to provide high-performance, "life-of-the system" alternatives to batteries for a wide range of industrial and transportation applications.

Dr Richard Balanson, Maxwell's president and chief executive officer, said that the new 2.5-volt cells have the same external dimensions but weigh just one-third as much as the familiar C-size battery, and are designed for easy mounting on printed circuit boards and in other electrical devices and systems. Representative applications include industrial robotics, actuators, telecommunications power buffering and back-up, aircraft door and air bag actuation, distributed power nodes for automotive subsystems and solar energy system augmentation.

"Global demand for ultracapacitor-based energy storage and power delivery solutions is growing rapidly, and we are committed to providing the industry's most complete single and multi-cell product portfolio," Balanson said. "The new C-cell is the only product of its size and capacitance that is hermetically sealed through a double seaming process to ensure long life and
reliability."

Michael Everett, Maxwell's vice president and chief technical officer, said the 120-farad BCAP0120 P250 Power-type C-cell is engineered specifically for high-cycling applications that require the lowest equivalent series resistance (ESR) and highest efficiency, while the 140-farad BCAP0140 E250 Energy version is designed to provide more economical solutions for lighter
duty applications. Each also is available in a fully integrated six-cell, 15-volt, pack.

Other recently introduced BOOSTCAP ultracapacitor products include cells ranging in capacitance from 320 to 2,600 farads and more than 20 fully integrated packs and modules based on the new cells. All of the cells with a capacitance of 650 farads or greater operate at 2.7 volts, enabling them to store more energy and deliver more power per unit volume than any other
commercially available ultracapacitor products.

"All of these products meet or exceed demanding transportation and industrial application requirements for both watt-hours of energy storage and watts of power delivery per kilogram and will perform reliably for more than one million discharge-recharge cycles," Everett said. "The proprietary architecture and material science on which these products are based also
significantly reduce manufacturing cost, positioning Maxwell to compete favourably with batteries and other energy storage technologies."

They also provide compact, lightweight, "life-of-the vehicle" solutions to stabilise automotive power networks and power new, all-electric subsystems, such as drive-by-wire steering.

Maxwell is a leading developer and manufacturer of innovative, cost-effective energy storage and power delivery solutions. Our BOOSTCAPR ultracapacitor cells and multi-cell modules and POWERCACHER backup power systems provide safe and reliable power solutions for applications in consumer and industrial electronics, transportation and telecommunications. Our CONDISR high-voltage grading and coupling capacitors help to ensure the safety and reliability of electric utility infrastructure and other applications involving transport, distribution and measurement of high-voltage electrical energy. Our radiation-mitigated microelectronic products include power modules, memory modules and single board computers that incorporate powerful commercial silicon for superior performance and high reliability in aerospace applications.
