Maxwell Technologies Introduces High Performance 'D-Cell' Ultracapacitors For Automotive Power Network Stabilization And Industrial Applications

New Power-Type Products Provide Compact, Lightweight, 'Life-of-the-System'Alternative to Batteries

ROSSENS, Switzerland - Maxwell Technologies, Inc. (Nasdaq: MXWL) announced today that it has introduced Power-type versions of its BOOSTCAP "D-Cell" ultracapacitor cells, packs and modules to provide high-performance, "life-of-the system" alternatives to batteries for automotive electrical power network stabilization and industrial applications.

Dr Richard Balanson, Maxwell's president and chief executive officer, said that the new, flashlight battery size, BCAP0310 P250 310-farad cell and compact, fully integrated, six-cell 15-volt packs and modules provide simple, low-cost, backup power solutions to avoid malfunctions that occur when multiple simultaneous electrical power demands cause a "voltage sag" that can upset microprocessors that manage electrical subsystems in modern vehicles. Industrial applications include power on demand for robotic systems and uninterruptible power supplies (UPS).

"With more than 60 million new cars rolling off assembly lines around the world each year, and the proliferation of power-consuming luxury and safety features in current and future vehicles, automotive power network stabilisation represents an immediate and very sizeable opportunity for ultracapacitor-based solutions, so we continue to move aggressively to capitalise on Maxwell's position as the global technology leader," Balanson said.

Dr John Miller, Maxwell's vice president for advanced transportation applications, said that the BCAP0310 P250 is the latest addition to company's line of Power-type ultracapacitor products whose versatility and high performance make them a compelling alternative to battery-based solutions for hybrid drive systems, idle stop-start, all-electric braking and steering and other applications in addition to power network stabilisation.

"Automakers are turning to ultracapacitors for solutions that optimise efficiency, ensure reliable cold starting, better manage power flows, stiffen and smoothen the power distribution network and provide fail-safe backup for critical safety systems," Miller said. "Maxwell's Power products have the lowest equivalent series resistance (ESR) and highest efficiency
available with current ultracapacitor technology."

Other new BOOSTCAP Power products include cells ranging in capacitance from 650 to 2,600 farads and 10 fully integrated modules based on the new cells. All of the cells with a capacitance of 650 farads or greater operate at 2.7 volts, enabling them to store more energy and deliver more power per unit volume than any other commercially available ultracapacitor products. Maxwell also offers a line of low-cost Energy-type products for lighter duty industrial, UPS, telecommunications and consumer electronics applications.

"All of these products meet or exceed demanding transportation and industrial application requirements for both watt-hours of energy storage and watts of power delivery per kilogram and will perform reliably for more than one million discharge-recharge cycles," Miller said. "The proprietary architecture and material science on which these product families are based
also significantly reduce manufacturing cost, positioning Maxwell to compete favourably with batteries and other competing technologies."

Miller noted that Maxwell's multi-cell modules for automotive applications are encased in rugged, splash-proof aluminium chassis and include internal cell balancing that give designers "plug and play" solutions, plus module-to-module balancing that makes them versatile building blocks for systems with higher voltage BOOSTCAP ultracapacitors deliver up to 10 times the power and longevity of batteries, require no maintenance and operate reliably in extreme temperatures. In transportation applications, they efficiently recapture energy from braking for reuse in hybrid drive trains, reducing fuel consumption and emissions. They also provide compact, lightweight, "life-of-the vehicle" solutions to stabilize automotive power networks and power new, all-electric subsystems, such as drive-by-wire steering. In mission critical industrial applications, where backup power is critical for continued operation or a soft shutdown in the event of power interruptions, they provide reliable, cost-effective, maintenance-free energy storage. In wind turbine blade pitch and braking systems and other industrial applications, they provide a simple, solid state, highly reliable, solution to buffer short-term mismatches between the power available and the power required.

HP IRELAND AWARDS THREE YEAR OUTSOURCING CONTRACT TO REDSTONE TEC HNOLOGY


May 16, 2006 - Hewlett Packard Ireland Ltd and Redstone Technology Ltd, a
subsidiary of Redstone plc, have signed a three year contract covering the
transfer of an element of HP's break-fix maintenance activity to Redstone.

The transfer became effective from the 1st May 2006 and has a minimum
contract term of three years which will generate significant recurring
revenues for Redstone.

Redstone Technology will be providing support for HP's customers within the
Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland as well as providing ad hoc
installation services.

Martin Balaam, Redstone plc's CEO comments: "This is a significant contract
for Redstone. It demonstrates Redstone's services excellence when a leading
world manufacturer has the confidence to outsource some of its customer

Maxwell Technologies Appoints Larry Longden General Manager of Microelectronics Space Products Group

SAN DIEGO, Calif. - Maxwell Technologies, Inc. (Nasdaq: MXWL) announced today that it has appointed Larry Longden general manager of the company's Microelectronics Group, which develops, manufactures and markets radiation hardened components and single board computers for the space and satellite markets.

Longden began his 32-year tenure with Maxwell as an engineer, specialising in analysing radiation effects on electronic devices and systems. In 1984, he was responsible for introducing the company's first radiation hardened product, a "nuclear event detector", which senses potentially damaging radiation effects and shuts down sensitive electronic systems to avoid or

Maxwell Technologies promotes Alain Riedo, General Manager of Swiss Unit, to Corporate Senior Vice President

ROSSENS, Switzerland - Maxwell Technologies, Inc. (Nasdaq: MXWL) announced today that Alain Riedo, general manager of the company's Maxwell Technologies SA subsidiary, has been promoted to senior vice president and appointed a corporate officer.

Riedo, 48, joined the company's Swiss unit, formerly known as Montena Components, in 1988 as director of sales, and was promoted to general manager in 1994. Maxwell retained Riedo as general manager of Maxwell SA when it acquired Montena in 2002. He negotiated the divestiture of several non-core product lines in 2002 and 2003, and continued to oversee management
of the CONDIS line of high voltage capacitor products as well as BOOSTCAP ultracapacitor manufacturing in Switzerland. In November 2005 his role was expanded to include overall responsibility for Maxwell's global ultracapacitor sales organisation.

Azzurri gets OREGA up and running within 24 hours
Leading voice and data communications company Azzurri Communications today announced that business centre specialist, OREGA, has just gone live with a new Mitel communications platform at its head office in Staines, Middlesex. Azzurri installed the new system within 24 hours over the weekend, and ensured that it was fully up and running by the time businesses returned to work in OREGA’s office environment on the Monday morning.

The new system enables OREGA to provide a cutting edge communications platform for its business centre occupants, as well as increasing reliability and simplifying adds, moves and changes processes.

Founded in 2000, OREGA is an award winning serviced office provider, offering flexible office environments for a wide range of companies.

When OREGA made plans to expand its business it decided that the time was right to look at how its communications set up could be improved for its business centre occupiers. The very nature of the serviced office environment means that changes to the building’s communications set up are frequently being made. OREGA was finding that, whilst up the current task, its aging Nortel System was unlikely to accommodate future developments in telecommunications technology.

“Instead of having an ongoing maintenance contract, we have historically had to pay for every change we wished to make on an individual basis. The whole moves, adds and changes process was becoming cumbersome and impractical,” comments Paul Finch, managing director, OREGA Business Centres.

“It was of paramount importance that the new solution was installed over 24 hours when our offices were empty and it had to be up and running by the time businesses returned to work at the start of the week. Working hand-in-hand with our own technical staff Azzurri had the solution ready for our clients when they returned to work.”

Following detailed discussions, Azzurri recommended a Mitel® 3300 Integrated Communications Platform (ICP).
With refreshed technology in the head office location, occupants can now take advantage of a fully IP enabled communications system. Reliability and availability of the phone system have been improved and with successful 'future-proofing' of the network, OREGA now has the clear IP migration path they need, without the need for additional network upgrade.

Moves, adds and changes are still a part of everyday life at the business centre but the whole process has been simplified and can now be done internally without having to rely on a third party.



“The combination of Mitel technology which we have already tested in another location, with Azzurri’s deep understanding of our requirements and business goals, means that we have a solution in place that clearly enables us to meet our needs, both today and for the foreseeable future. Red-M takes centre stage at In-Building Solutions 2006

Chief Technology Officer, Simon Saunders, plays major part at 10th European Summit

Red-M's Chief Technology Officer, Simon Saunders, will be speaking on 23rd May on the subject of 'Navigating the expanding range of in-building architectural options'. Wireless guru, Simon Saunders, to take the stage
