>Lancashire’s young people are set to get state-of-the-art school facilities
Redstone plc, a national provider of IT and communications solutions, today announced that it has successfully concluded contract negotiations for the design, implementation and managed IT services for the Lancashire Building Schools for the Future project (BSF).
BSF is a Government initiative seeking to support a transformation of secondary education by ensuring children and young people of secondary age have access to facilities of 21st Century standards. The intention is to renew and/or replace all secondary schools over the next 10 to 15 years, which is the biggest investment from a Government in more than 50 years.
Lancashire has been included in the first wave of the BSF programme, which will cover schools in Burnley and part of Pendle.
Working in a consortium with Catalyst Lend Lease, Capita Symonds Group and financiers, Halifax Bank of Scotland; Redstone Converged Solutions and Redstone Managed Solutions will be providing the complete integrated IT and communication systems for nine new schools to be built in Lancashire, along with a seven-year managed IT services contract.
The project, which is part of the initial wave of the Government’s Building Schools for the Future programme, will be completed in three phases between 2008 and 2010, and is worth a total of £16m. Orders to the value of £6.3m have been placed with Redstone for the first phase of the contract and the managed IT services.
