Zen Internet helps Edinburgh celebrate Hogmanay

Organisers use broadband connections to keep on top of celebrations

Zen Internet, a leading Internet Service Provider (ISP), is providing Scotland's leading event organisers, Unique Events, with up to five high-speed broadband connections to help them run Edinburgh's Christmas and Hogmanay celebrations. The connections will enable Unique Events to recreate a normal office working environment on-site before and during the events, allowing access to all event data, and communications with all suppliers and contractors as smoothly as if they were in the office.

Zen Internet is providing Office 2000 ADSL connections, the highest speed available, on each site being run by Unique Events. Zen's 'virtual events team' has just installed the first of these top-of-the-range connections within a day, a turnaround that usually takes five working days. As the events draw near, further connections will be created as each event starts up, until the last connection on 5 December.

A spokesperson from Unique Events, said: "These high speed broadband connections will enable our staff on the ground to co-ordinate and organise the events as if they were back in the office. They will have full access to e-mails, contact with suppliers, and will crucially have up-to-date instant access to the latest weather reports. Having successfully worked with Zen on the recent Live8 concert in Edinburgh, and several other events, we knew that they would be able to provide the connections we needed, quickly and effectively."

Unique Events create, produce and manage the Christmas and Hogmanay celebrations in Edinburgh, starting with the Christmas Light Night and Ice Show on 24th December, and including the world famous Royal Bank Street Party on 31st December. 100,000 people will attend the party, with four stages of free live music and giant screens. The complexity of the celebrations means that seamless communications are essential for the smooth running of the event.

Iain Johnstone, Zen Internet, said: "Our virtual events team has built up valuable experience working across a wide range of events such as Glastonbury, Live8 and the V festival. We have an excellent relationship with Unique Events and our experience means that we can recommend and implement the right connections quickly, and with maximum support, in order for the events to run successfully. We understand the fine timelines involved in event organising and our turnaround is a vital element of the run up to an event."

Two new multi-format wireless IC designs from Hantro enable highe

Hantro today announced two new silicon designs that will enable the encoding and decoding of high resolution video in the most resource limited environments.

SDTV Resolution Record and Play in a Feature Phone

3G Congress, Hong Kong - 16th November 2005 - With handset cost and
battery life primary design criteria, the challenges of incorporating
video capability into volume selling mobile handsets are many. Hantro, a
world leader in mobile multimedia technologies, today announced two new
silicon designs that will enable the encoding and decoding of high
resolution video in the most resource limited environments.

Enabling up to SDTV resolution with 30 frames per second, the 6170
decoder and 6270 encoder products provide support for MPEG-4 simple
profile, H.263 profile 0 and H.264 / AVC baseline as well as JPEG still
images up to 16Mpix. Optimised for integration into wireless baseband or
application processors, the encoder and decoder off-load all of the
computationally heavy tasks from the CPU to dedicated hardware
acceleration which makes high resolutions possible without the need for
a more costly processor core. When compared to a full software solution
running in an ARM9, the 6170 and 6270 can deliver up to a 97% reduction
in CPU load with a 50% saving in power consumption.

"Achieving high performance video in cost efficient and low powered
processor ASIC designs is a fundamental requirement for bringing mobile
video to the mass market" says Eero Kaikkonen, President and CEO of
Hantro "We have been designing for wireless system on chips since 1992
and have been focused on video codec designs since 1998. It is through
these 13 years of experience that we are able to deliver the most
efficient designs for wireless IC's without compromising performance."

The 6170 decoder incorporates a host of post-processing features that
improve visual performance, simplify device integration and facilitate
application development: -

· Colour conversion changes the output video to RGB format,
meeting display input requirements.
· Brightness, contrast and saturation provide complete control
over the visual aspects of the image.
· Alpha blending and masking simplify user interface design.
· Cropping and scaling enable higher resolution video / still
images to be easily displayed on the handset screen.
· Picture in picture facilitates the implementation of
applications such as: video telephony and channel preview for mobile TV.

6270 benefits from Hantro's extremely efficient patented indexed full
search motion estimation algorithm. By utilising all block sizes from
4x4 through to 16x16 with ¼ pixel accuracy the algorithm delivers a 4x
speed increase over more complex full search algorithms without a loss
in visual quality. The speed increase enables VGA/D1 resolution encoding
with 100-166MHz clock frequency in AHB/OCP bus based SoCs; a traditional
full search algorithm would require a 400-600Mhz clock which would
result in excessive power consumption and unrealistic SoC design
requirements.

Both encoder and decoder utilise Hantro's common API making it easy to
migrate existing applications, developed for previous generation
hardware or software codecs, over to the 6170 and 6270 products.

6170 and 6270 will be available for delivery during the first quarter of
2006.

Hantro adds Coding Technologies' aacPlus audio codec to their por

Hantro and Coding Technologies announced today that they have signed an agreement under which Hantro will incorporate the performance optimised aacPlus(tm) codecinto their mobile multimedia proudct offering to deliver an incredible multimedia experience on wireless handsets.

Best-of-Breed Audio and Video Implementations Enable the Most Compelling
Multimedia in Mobile Handsets

3G Congress, Hong Kong - 16th November, 2005 - Hantro and Coding
Technologies announced today that they have signed an agreement under
which Hantro will incorporate the performance optimised aacPlus(tm) codec
into their mobile multimedia product offering. With quality comparable
to MP3 at only a quarter of the bitrate, aacPlus audio is an ideal
companion to H.264 / AVC or VC-1 video for delivering an incredible
multimedia experience on wireless handsets.

aacPlus is AAC coupled with Coding Technologies' patented Spectral Band
Replication (SBR) and Parametric Stereo technologies. SBR and Parametric
Stereo are groundbreaking audio compression techniques that dramatically
reduce the size (bit rate) of digital audio files while maintaining the
same audio quality. In third-party listening tests, consumers found
comparable quality between music files encoded at 128 Kbps in MP3 versus
those encoded at 32 Kbps with aacPlus. This level of efficiency
fundamentally changes the economics of digital music delivery and
enables new applications in mobile and digital broadcasting. Coding
Technologies' aacPlus has been adopted in standards from 3GPP, DVB, DVD
Forum, MPEG, and others and is quickly becoming the defacto-standard for
mobile handsets worldwide.

"Coding Technologies is a natural choice for Hantro to partner with."
Says Eero Kaikkonen, President and CEO of Hantro "Their implementation
of the MPEG-4 aacPlus standard is leading the field for quality and
performance, coupled with our video technologies we have created the
best foundation for creating the most compelling applications in the
most resource limited environments."

"Hantro's expertise in video coding and its broad solution offerings are
a perfect fit for our aacPlus audio technology", added Oliver Kunz, Vice
President Strategic Marketing Coding Technologies. "Services combining
audio and video are in the focus of network operators, manufacturers and
users alike, and this deal is offering a best-in-class combination
ensuring optimum user experience."

About Hantro
Hantro is a world leader for multimedia technology in mobile handsets.
Providing both hardware and software based designs, the company is

Azzurri Gives Teachers Eyes In The Back Of Their Head

BETT 2006 (stand S31) Azzurri Communications launches TALMOS Classroom Manager, a practical and useful tool that promotes effective classroom control

Education specialist, Azzurri Communications, will demonstrate how its unique TALMOS Classroom Manager product can help teachers and students get more out of their lessons through the innovative application of technology, at BETT 2006 at Olympia, London on 11th-14th January 2006.

On the stand (S31) visitors will be able to see live demonstrations of Azzurri's new product, TALMOS Classroom Manager, a piece of web based software that enables teachers to have total control of exactly what pupils have access to on their computers while in the classroom. With unique personalised Internet filtering, Classroom Manager promotes and enables the safe use of computers and the Internet, enabling teachers to dictate exactly what each pupil has access to.

Gerard Toplass, managing director Azzurri Education comments: "BETT 2006 is an ideal forum for the launch of our unique TALMOS Classroom Manager product. Some of the teachers that have piloted this product will be on the stand to share their enthusiasm and to talk about how using technology has revolutionised lesson planning and classroom management within their schools."

"The product gives teachers complete control over what a pupil can and cannot see. Teacher's can be sure that children aren't surfing the Internet and logging into chat rooms while their back is turned," continues Toplass.

Azzurri will also be running demonstrations of its flagship product TALMOS Planning, a teaching and learning management solution. TALMOS Planning enhances schools ability to teach effectively and reduce daily administration. It is now available with skeleton lesson plans and proposed content, in line with the national curriculum, to help schools and teachers plan lessons in advance.

The TALMOS solution complements the government's workforce reform agreement, designed to make sure all classroom teachers in England get 10% of their working week set aside for planning, marking and other tasks.

The solution is set apart from other planning applications as it is completely teacher-centric, helping them to plan and deliver lessons, share lesson resources, evaluate lesson effectiveness, monitor teaching styles and more importantly, in line with the Government's Personalised Learning agenda, make these available individually to children.

TALMOS Planning also helps develop collaborative working within individual schools, LEA and school clusters, helping them to accelerate an improvement in standards and strengthen teaching and learning throughout a network of schools. Azzurri has already deployed its TALMOS Planning application to the North Somerset 7 Federation of schools, making it possible for teachers to easily share and access lesson plans at the click of a mouse, across the seven sites.

As part of the stand, Azzurri will also be demonstrating its TALMOS 'Learning Link' solution, demonstrating that the future of education lies in the connectivity between a child's school and home. TALMOS 'Learning Link' turns 24x7 learning into a reality, enabling children to work remotely on their school's server to do their homework or catch up on any work they may have missed. Teachers can also connect to the TALMOS system from home to plan lessons and allocate resources.

The 'Learning Link' solution is an absolute extension from school to a child's home. It also helps parents and guardians become part of the teaching and learning process.
