gedas Logs Highest Profits in its History at 13.7 Million Euros
Berlin, 23 February 2005 – The IT service provider gedas managed to increase its profits further in fiscal 2004, in spite of a difficult market situation. Its earnings before taxes rose about 25% over the previous year, from 11 million euros in 2003 to 13.7 million euros in 2004, thus marking a historic peak. This increase in profits was mainly the result of the company’s focus on strategic markets as well as its consistent implementation of measures needed to cut costs and improve processes.

Sales remained almost stable, at 567 million euros (previous year: 576 million euros). The ForMotion program of VW, the parent company, exerted even more price pressure and resulted in less money being invested in information technology. The resulting drop in turnover was cushioned, but not fully offset, by the increase in sales in the external market by 9% over the previous year, to 176 million euros. Investments in the amount of about 30 million euros were fully funded from the cash flow of current business activities.

As of 31 December 2004, the company had 4,930 employees worldwide—a plus of 3.8% over 2003, when 4,751 people had worked for the gedas Group. In Germany, the company had 1,397 employees at the end of last year (including the German employees of gedas AG), with 478 of them working in Berlin and 416 in Wolfsburg.

“Our strategy of focusing on the manufacturing and automotive industries was implemented consistently and successfully in the fiscal year that just ended: We have gained more than 50 new customers in this segment. Our new global organization, based on business segments, has paid off as well,” says Axel Knobe, CEO. “Despite difficult market trends, we will continue to grow in the external market in 2005 and increase profits yet again.”

The company has set itself an additional goal for 2005: the sustainable increase of profitability by expanding external business and focusing on automotive suppliers, the manufacturing industry, and logistics service providers. In addition, gedas will keep its sights particularly on trends in the segment of international customers and the emerging markets of Central and Eastern Europe as well as China. The company’s global standardization of processes will lead to further cost savings and thus contribute to increased profitability this year.

Company profile:
gedas provides consulting on the development, system integration and operation of IT solutions to companies in the automotive and manufacturing industries. gedas’s technological expertise in its core market and its knowledge of business processes in the automotive industry also benefit numerous customers from other industries and the public administration sector. The IT service provider has developed its own comprehensive philosophy, called “Intelligent Transformation,” which is based on three core concepts: technological benefits, an integrated approach, and a useful interface between people and technology.
gedas, a subsidiary of the Volkswagen Group, is headquartered in Berlin and maintains 50 branch offices in 13 countries. In 2004, the company and its approximately 5,000 employees generated sales of 567 million euros.

ProClarity and ACE Enterprise Provide Real-Time Analytic Capabilities to SAP-based Organisations
‘s-Hertogenbosch, Netherlands, February 15, 2005 – ProClarity Corporation, a leading provider of analytic application technology for the enterprise, today announced a partnership with ACE Enterprise Slovakia that will provide real-time analytic access to SAP® for ProClarity® Live Server customers. ACE Enterprise, which specialises in building SAP connectivity systems, collaborated with ProClarity to develop ACE Enterprise Integrator which seamlessly integrates with ProClarity Live Server to enable real-time connections from Microsoft Excel to SAP R/3 and SAP BW data sources.
"Many of our clients have expressed interest in integrating SAP data into their reports using ProClarity Live Server," said Jan van Dijk, ProClarity International's product manager. "With ACE Enterprise Integrator, organisations can quickly define the SAP information they need to access in real-time directly from Excel. This gives users the ability to integrate SAP data with other information and they can even write back directly to the SAP data source in a controlled manner."

The combination of Live Server and ACE Enterprise Integrator, which is SAP certified, offers business decision makers the ability to create and share Excel spreadsheets that combine data directly out of SAP with information from other data sources. The use of ‘live’ and persistent connections to the data ensures that users always have access to the most up-to-date information.
“SAP data sources provide a great deal of valuable business information, yet they are traditionally not the easiest resources to access,” said Hexal's Data Service Manager. “The ACE Enterprise Integrator allows us to tap SAP information and analyse it in relation to other data directly in Excel, giving us a much more holistic view of our organisation and allowing us to make more educated business decision.”
The ProClarity Live Server is a middle-tier server that provides 'live' and persistent connections to a multitude of data sources. Live Server maintains data consistency and security throughout the organisation by providing a centralised point of control. By enabling both read and write capabilities to data sources in the familiar Excel environment, ProClarity Live Server promotes effective team planning and enables rapid updates of critical business systems.
Live Server is an integral component of the ProClarity 6 product family, a fully customisable analytic application platform that enables the rapid development and deployment of tailored business intelligence (BI) solutions.
"We are very excited to be partnering with ProClarity to incorporate real-time SAP data into analytic applications built in Live Server," said Alexander Cimbalak, CTO of ACE Enterprise Slovakia. "Live Server provides a great tool for users to analyse critical information in their SAP systems and incorporate it into their analytic applications."

E.ON UK SWITCHES ON TO 30% CALL SAVINGS WITH CABLE & WIRELESS
E.ON UK SWITCHES ON TO 30% CALL SAVINGS WITH CABLE & WIRELESS

Under strict embargo until 00.01hrs, 14 February 2005

Cable & Wireless today (14 February 2005) announced that it has signed a deal with E.ON UK, the energy company that runs Powergen, to consolidate the inbound call services to its UK call centres. The deal is worth £6 million over three years and will integrate seven call centres dealing with 0800 freephone calls from gas and electricity customers onto a single, reliable inbound network.

Three separate suppliers previously served E.ON’s call centres, which are located around the UK at sites including Nottingham, Bolton and Leicester. By making Cable & Wireless, the leader in communications and IT infrastructure solutions for business, its primary communications contractor, E.ON UK estimates that it will save more than 30% on inbound calls each year for the next three years.

Mark Routledge, head of infrastructure services at E.ON UK, said: “Improving customer service is always our number one priority. This deal allows us to rationalise the way we handle calls and to maintain and improve our current high levels of customer service at two thirds of the existing cost.”

Robin Morgan, managing director, Retail & Industry, Cable & Wireless, added: “We’re very pleased to be working with E.ON UK to help reduce complexity and cut costs on each step of its journey to unify its call centre infrastructure.”

Powergen has 8.9 million customer accounts in the UK while Central Networks, E.ON UK’s electricity distribution business, serves 4.8 million customers in central England.

Under the terms of the deal, Cable & Wireless will be E.ON UK’s preferred provider of inbound call services. The service will be fully managed and monitored by Cable & Wireless, with a single service level agreement to allow E.ON UK to measure service more conveniently.

Zen Internet launches ZenADSL Home 2000 - the latest in high-speed broadband technology for the home user
the latest in high-speed broadband technology for the home user

10 February 2005 – Internet Service Provider (ISP), Zen Internet is pleased to announce the official launch of ZenADSL Home 2000. This launch follows a highly successful trial in conjunction with BT Wholesale. The latest broadband service, with a download speed of 2Mbps, will be on sale from today (10 February) at £38.29 per month (plus VAT) with an activation fee of £50 (plus VAT). The three-month trial has also proved very popular with many existing customers who have taken the opportunity to upgrade to the latest addition to the ZenADSL Home range.

The new ‘self install’ product is aimed at the more demanding first time broadband user and addresses the needs of customers in the consumer market who may be looking to upgrade to a higher bandwidth product. ZenADSL Home 2000, with the extra speed and bandwidth, is ideal for single or multiple family users, teleworkers and small-office businesses, by providing greater speed at a more affordable price.

The increased bandwidth will enable even faster downloads, allow speedy downloading of more than one item at a time, or downloading of an item without it being detrimental to the browsing experience. As an example of the speed of this service, it is up to eight times faster than ZenADSL Home 250, which is Zen’s entry-level service for family users and a step-up from the restrictions of a dial-up connection.

“As broadband usage and take up continues to grow, the requirement for higher bandwidth services increases.
More businesses than ever before are considering remote working for their employees, which will require high bandwidth connectivity into the home and ZenADSL Home 2000 is the ideal solution” said Stephen Warburton, Commercial Manager of Zen Internet.

Zen Internet offers a range of broadband Internet packages for both home and business users. These packages range from Zen Home 250, which is the ideal package for home users looking to experience low-cost, unrestricted Internet access for the first time to Zen ADSL Office 2000, which is a top of the range business solution that removes dial-up speed restrictions and can download documents up to 40 times faster than a standard dial-up modem.
