Access to gaming files from GamersHell.com just got quicker thanks to Zen Internet
19th January 05 - Zen Internet, one of the UK’s leading Internet Service Providers (ISPs) has helped GamersHell.com (www.gamershell.com) to exceed 300,000 downloads in a single day. Zen Internet is providing a 1Gbps connection to the world’s most popular download location for gaming files to cope with the site’s phenomenal demand for downloads.

GamersHell.com is an online gaming magazine that focuses on games for all of the various gaming platforms. This unique site offers gamers the latest in news, media, downloads, reviews and other exclusives such as previews, developer interviews and hardware reviews. “By partnering with GamersHell.com, we can provide fast access for customers wanting to download the latest in game demos, patches and previews,” said James Blessing, Product Development, Zen Internet. He continues: “In fact, on the first day of service, our connection went from 0 to 100Mbps, so we had to upgrade to a 1Gbps connection in order to cope with the demand.”

“Our site feeds gaming fanatics with all they need to know about the gaming industry, and allows gamers to download the latest and greatest games available on the market. Zen Internet continues its search for new talent
17th January 2005 – The hunt is still on to fill a variety of vacancies at Rochdale-based, Internet Service Provider (ISP), Zen Internet. The company is looking to take on at least 70 new members of staff across all areas of the business from sales and customer billing roles through to technical support and systems development roles.

Such was the success of the company during 2004 that Zen Internet, a provider of Internet services to both home and business users, desperately needs to fill these vacancies in order to cope with its ever-increasing levels of new business. Following a successful recruitment drive in October 2004, the company managed to take on a number of new employees, but is still looking to recruit yet more new talent into the company.

"Zen Internet is 10 years old this year. In those 10 years we have never had as much market opportunity as we have today,” said Richard Tang, proprietor and managing director, Zen Internet. “We want to make the most of this opportunity but cannot do so without significantly increasing our staff numbers. We're looking for the best people to join our team and help fulfil our mission to provide the best ISP service in the UK."

In a bid to attract newcomers to the business, Zen Internet will be holding recruitment events on Thursday 20th January from 5.30pm-8.30pm at the Renaissance Hotel, Manchester and also on Saturday 22nd January from 10.00am-1.00pm at Rochdale Town Hall. The aim of these events is to give attendees a chance to learn more about working for one of the UK’s leading ISPs and find out more about the various roles that are currently available. Interested candidates will then be invited to take part in a short, informal interview.

If the company fulfils its latest recruitment plans, staff levels will double to over 200. And the company plans to expand yet further with a new headquarters which will house up to 2,000 employees. The new building will be built close to its existing headquarters, on the new Kingsway West Business Park, and is due for completion in 2007.

Last year was extremely successful for the company and it received numerous prestigious awards that recognise its consistent growth. Most recently, the company was listed 39th in the Sunday Times Fast Track 100, which represents the 100 fastest growing unquoted companies in Britain, judged on sales growth over the last three years. Zen also won the Growth Strategy of the Year award at the regional finals of the National Business Awards.

CDS-LED CONSORTIUM WINS MAJOR OFCOM PROJECT TO IMPROVE SPECTRUM SHARING FOR UK BUSINESSES
January 13, 2005 - CDS Ltd, the independent specialist in wireless communications, has won a contract valued at £230,000 with Ofcom to undertake a research project into improving spectrum efficiency for UK businesses. The company will lead a consortium of wireless industry experts for the one-year project as part of Ofcom’s Spectrum Efficiency Scheme. The consortium brings together BAA, BAE Systems, Cardiff University, NERA, Roke Manor Research and the Smith Institute.

Commenting on the award of the contract, Mike Kennett, Senior Strategy Consultant at CDS, who will lead the Consortium’s work said: “The radio spectrum is very congested, and the proliferation of new wireless services and technologies, such as software defined radio and ultra wide band, is simply going to add to the challenges and problems. The efficient sharing of radio spectrum is essential to ensure minimal interference to wireless users and the highest quality of service.”

The Consortium will investigate different methods of spectrum sharing. Some sharing already occurs including the use of multiple WiFi and other devices in unlicensed bands, as well as utilisation of the same spectrum for both satellite and terrestrial applications.

Ofcom’s recent Spectrum Framework Review reinforces that making efficient use of the radio spectrum is one of the organisation’s key duties. The study being undertaken by the CDS-led Consortium is regarded as an important exercise in testing some of the fundamental thinking and developing novel solutions.

Dr. Kennett continued: “Whilst there have already been many studies into the sharing of specific applications or services, the focus of this new study will be to look at both existing and innovative new sharing schemes with the aim of quantifying their performance and their cost/benefit.”

In addition to a literature study, the Consortium will undertake modelling of the impact of various schemes on quality of service. Those that appear to offer the most promise will be subjected to more detailed analysis and modelling techniques. The final report will provide not only an economic assessment of the cost/benefit of spectrum sharing but will also give an assessment of how best to implement solutions.

HANTRO STRENGTHENS MARKET LEADING POSITION WITH GROWTH FUNDING
LEADING PROVIDER OF VIDEO ENABLING TECHNOLOGY FOR MOBILE HANDSETS SECURES €4 MILLION ADDITIONAL INVESTMENT

Oulu, Finland – 10th January 2005 - Hantro Oy, the leading provider of mobile multimedia technology, announced today a further €4 Million investment from a syndicate, led by CapMan, comprising of Hantro’s existing investors: CapMan, Nexit Ventures and Menire. The additional investment will be used to strengthen Hantro’s leading position within the global market place.

"2004 proved to be a breakthrough year for video in mobile devices. Market growth was many times that of 2003 with a huge increase in demand for video applications such as video messaging, clip download, video ringtones, mobile TV and video telephony.” said Eero Kaikkonen, founder and CEO of Hantro “Throughout the last year it has been increasingly obvious that video services are forming a central part of the network operators’ strategies for increasing average revenue per user (ARPU) and, whilst we have heard some mention of proprietary formats for video compression, it is clear that the preference is for standards based technology, such as, MPEG4 Simple Profile, H.263 and MPEG4 AVC / H.264."

Pekka Salonoja, Nexit Venture and Chairman of the Hantro’s board said "Hantro’s growth through 2004 was significant, represented by a threefold increase in its sales - the company also achieved profitability ahead of expectations. We are confident that, with this additional funding, Hantro will be able continue to grow faster than market forecasts and provide an exceptional return on investment for us.”

Hantro remains unique in its capability to provide both software and hardware video technologies. This enables the company to provide a complete product roadmap, with a migration path facilitating early adoption and market testing, through to mass-market penetration. Hantro's strategy to provide the necessary middleware, enabling fast application development on top of its software and hardware codecs, has proven successful with their key partners choosing to licence complete engine solutions. Hantro’s customers include Nokia, Agere, Freescale, T-Mobile, Vodafone, Alcatel, Quanta and Mtekvision.

Since focusing on developing the technology that enables video in mobile handsets Hantro has claimed a number of firsts; the first company to deliver a camcorder application for smart phones, with T-mobile, Hantro's technology launched the first video service in Europe, and in October 2004, Hantro announced the first commercially available H.264 player for off-the-shelf mobile handsets.

In 2005 Hantro will continue to push the boundaries with solutions that enable mobile handsets to capture and play video at resolutions similar to those found in high end DV cameras (D1 - 720x576). By providing multiple format capability (MPEG4 Simple Profile, H.263 and MPEG4 AVC / H.264 as well as JPEG still image), along with all the necessary application software to facilitate handset integration, these solutions will enable a complete suite of video applications from mobile TV through to video telephony.

Focused on mobile, Hantro is committed to continually advancing video enabling technology to deliver capabilities that exceed the expectations of the marketplace.
