Channel 4 livens up lessons with Azzurri's teaching management solution

22 September 2005, Azzurri Communications, a leading communications and technology provider, today announced that Channel 4 has selected its teaching management solution, TALMOS (Teaching & Learning Management Open System), as the basis for delivering its audio-visual library, ClipBank.

The system allows secondary school students and teachers, searchable access to a database of broadcast quality video clips for the core subjects of history, geography and science with modern languages and design & technology content due to be added during the Autumn term.

Julian Mobbs, Head of Sales & Business Development at Channel 4 said; "We aim to help teachers plan and deliver lessons that children want to be part of. Working with Azzurri we are combining traditional teaching methods with up-to-date technology to improve standards and inspire pupils."

Whereas teachers used to have to set their videos to catch relevant programmes, often screened in the middle of the night, manageable clips can now be downloaded from the TALMOS database straight into lesson plans and coursework. The clips are ideal for the consolidation and understanding of key learning objectives and they are all matched to the QCA's (Qualifications and Curriculum Authority) scheme of work.

Joanne Walker, head of geography at Carmel Technology College said: "Using the ClipBank facility on the TALMOS system streamlines my planning and brings a new dimension to lessons. For example I can now explain a complex idea like the formation of a waterfall at the click of a button without having to show the students a twenty-minute video. It leaves more lesson time for exploring the subject in more depth and is more engaging for the students."

The resources can be used to support all learning styles by integrating video, text and illustrations to match student and teacher requirements. It also allows pupils to locate clips to insert into and support project work, enhancing their use of technology across a number of curriculum areas.

Martin St Quinton, CEO, Azzurri comments: "Channel 4 is responding to the changing needs and desires of today's schoolchildren and teachers. The appropriate use of technology is a great way to improve motivation and continuously enhance the teaching environment in schools."

Azzurri Communications has a wide range of customers in the education sector, spanning primary and secondary schools, specialist schools, colleges, education action zones, city learning centres and LEAs and has achieved Becta (British Educational Communications and Technology Agency) accreditation to supply interactive whiteboards under the DfES Whiteboard Expansion Initiative.
